On the grounds of a retreat center in the mountains about ten miles from La Vega, Colombia. It normally takes about an hour and a half to get there from Bogotá but the roads above La Vega were pretty well washed out... necessitating our bus to be driven backwards for about five miles to find a place to turn around in our return to La Vega where we were put in several VERY OLD Jeeps which were able to finally get us to our destination... three and a half hours late. I would appreciate it if someone can give me some information on this fruit... it seems familiar. By the way... it is the size of a tennis ball.
since the plant has thorns it could possibly be a rose hip but its much more round than most. the fuzz/microthorns covering it also points to a rose of some type but i can't be sure. it's a great photo.
