coming in from the "shove" [the locals' word for an ice field that's pushed to the shoreline]. The conditions were ultra icy and the light was going fast... so I retraced my steps and only walked where I'd walked before [lots of large ice blocks buried under yesterday's blowing snow].
I understand... I've never experienced anything like it [in size] until our two trips this winter.

You have really captured a gorgeous side of winter in spite of the bitter cold. I just can't find the words to describe this deviation other than absolutely beautiful and very breath-taking.
